Our Founder Hiba On Six Years Of Parenting Lessons
Hiba Siddiqui, founder of The Tenth -the London-based clinical care programme supporting women through pregnancy and postpartum - has written a piece for SheerLuxe on what raising her six-year-old son, Hadi, has taught her.
A couple of the lessons that stood out to us:
On stepping back: "My instinct is always to rescue Hadi when I see him struggling but confidence comes from discovering you can do difficult things yourself."
On the pressure to get it right: "There's no scorecard or performance review to reassure yourself that you're doing well. I've realised the goal isn't perfection."
On what children actually notice: she's learnt that Hadi takes in far more from watching how she moves through the world than from anything she deliberately tries to teach him.
On being present: for Hiba, that isn't about being available every second; it's about genuinely knowing what's going on in Hadi's life, what excites him and what worries him.
There are fifteen lessons in total, covering everything from why explanation matters more than instruction, to why she's stopped trying to win every disagreement.
